In Memoriam

Over the summer, PAWS lost two dearly loved and valuable volunteers.

In late July, Barbara McDevitt succumbed to a long term battle with  a respiratory ailment that she just couldn't overcome. Barbara and her husband, Tom, joined PAWS in 2018 and volunteered as fosters. With her outgoing, joyful personality, Barbara quickly assimilated into the PAWS community. Volunteer Diane DeVivo says: "Barb was one of our most enthusiastic volunteers. She came to adoption hours often just to visit and always cheered us up with her upbeat attitude and wonderful sense of humor. No matter what struggles she was going through she always had a kind word for everyone and compassion for the struggles of others. And she so loved our cats!"

In August, Ruth Moser, a long-time PAWS member and past-President passed away at age 91. Our current president, Sue DiMeo, recalls working with Ruth on several projects including reviewing and updating our mission statement in 2001 and learning how to manage our Humane Response Line. She remembers Ruth as "... a brilliant lady who was dedicated to the welfare of all creatures. She was our go-to expert for medical the care and treatment of turtles and tortoises, in addition to our more typical foster cats and dogs. Ruth was always very generous with her support, contributing her time and her experience, as well as her personal financial assistance to animals and people in need in our community."

May both of these great ladies rest in peace.
