Bumkin came to us after her elderly owner entered a nursing home; the bustling, kid-filled home of the original owner's son was simply too much for our quiet lady. In a quiet home with lots of one-on-one time with one or two people she has warmed up slowly and steadily, first coming out for short scratching sessions under her chin and around her neck before sidling away, then plopping down for a full on petting session, and finally cuddling up next to us while we are watching tv. While she is not a lap cat and not overly fond of being picked up, she loves attention and scratches and will tell you when you are not paying sufficient attention to her with adorable mews and squeaks. Her manners occasionally slip and she will respond to stress with a little nip - then look at you innocently, "why did you stop scratching me?" She will play with a ball briefly but would rather sit in the window or stretch out on her favorite chair. She will be happiest in a quiet home with someone around a lot, and with a patient owner who will let her come to them. Her front paws are declawed and she enjoys occasional brushing to keep down the shedding. She is a real sweetheart and has a lot of love to give!
